Making Space for the Sacred: Connecting to Ancient Sites
On the Creative Kinesiology module in March, the group was guided to attend to our spiritual lives through connections with sacred and ancient sites.
We talked about our favourite places, where we have been and the areas we are drawn to visit.
In wonderful synchronicity during the past 6 weeks, I have visited Glastonbury Tor and the Bronze Age stone circle at Scorhill, East Devon.
I always feel most at home in Devon, where I can see Dartmoor and explore its mysteries and stories. All over the moor, right on my doorstep, is evidence of people's lives and sacred practices from ancient civilisations.
It amazes me that there are sites over 3000 years old that clearly held great significance to the people of the time - and we can still visit them today!
I find there is something truly magical and inspiring about stone circles. I am intrigued by their mystery, and when I visit I imagine how the Bronze Age people thought about the site and its significance in their culture.
When I visit sacred spaces I feel rooted, both to the land and to the people that have come before me. It reminds me of how blessed I am to be alive, and also how vital it is that we sustain the earth for future generations.
The sense of perspective is a great teacher on my life journey, providing a sense of hope, as well as humility.
Where do you feel most at home?
Where does your soul feel drawn to visit?
Where do you experience wonder and mystery?
Undoubtedly there is a sacred site near you, whether that is the ocean, beacon, river or wood. Spend some time there, perhaps even check with your Tourist Office about ancient places which might be just around the corner from you.
Go there.
Make space for the sacred in your life, deepen the connection with your soul and move closer to your spiritual home.
