Adventures in Creative Kinesiology: Finding Your Centre

In July I started my next adventure - training to become a professional Creative Kinesiologist, in the magnificent location of Throwleigh, north Dartmoor.

In its simplest description, kinesiology is about enabling people to become more balanced and centred in themselves - on all levels. This allows you to walk tall, strong and confidently on your soul path, making use of your talents and gifts.

In our lives we all encounter experiences that cause us to feel unbalanced, destabilised or lost. And as humans we naturally strive to find understanding and meaning in life.

Starting something new, whether it is a new relationship, job, family - or kinesiology course! - is often a time when we might need some extra support. A new season can affect some people, as the weather and daylight hours change. In the UK September and October are when children are starting or returning to school, students go to University and many people start back at work after a holiday break.

The process of checking polarity, reminds me of being 3 years old and learning to ride a bicycle with the help of stabilisers. They helped me to find my centre and keep my balance, so that when they were taken off I could still stay upright, peddle and navigate the path I was on.

We humans have 3 dimensions in the physical world - 1. up and down, 2. left and right, and 3. back and forwards. One of the great tools in kinesiology is checking the polarity measures, and discovering whether a person is present, centred and balanced in their body.

It is very common in the modern (Western) world for people to have some disconnection in the up/down axis, as we spend more time in our heads and are usually not centred just below the navel. Bringing balance to this aspect may be through reconnecting to feelings and emotions.

Beginning something new may also reveal some disconnection on one of the other axes. There may be a pull to the past and fear of the future, creating imbalance in the back/forward axis. Or sometimes there is a rush towards the future and someone may move beyond the present moment in their excitement!

Take a moment to close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Feel how connected you are to your body, to the area below your navel. Are you aware of what is happening around you, or are you distracted by thoughts of the future or past? Is your body well aligned, or does it lean to the left or right?

The joy of kinesiology is that you receive feedback from your own body, and you find that the body and energy system has a huge amount of wisdom about what you might need at the present time.
