Strengthening Yourself From the Inside Out

Inner strength. What is it? Where do you find it?

Cultivating inner strength is a process, and quite often a lifetime's work (or many lifetimes' work for those who reincarnate).

On my personal journey through bodywork, talking therapies, energy therapies, and more, I have found a number of truths for myself. Perhaps these resonate with you...

My inner strength comes firstly from my own self-awareness and self-knowledge. What moves me, my passions, my values and my integrity. The difficulty of making the choice that is right for me, even in the face of criticism, denial or dismissal.

My inner strength developed through learning to listen to my intuition. The symptoms of my physical body communicate messages about what is good for me and where my next step is, I just had to learn how to hear them. Only by taking action that is aligned with my intuition and integrity, does this muscle of inner knowing strengthen.

My inner strength is at its best when my spiritual life is engaged and fulfilled. Worrying less about the external world and its demands, and instead considering what I need as a priority. Paying attention to my happiness and purpose, and finding the right steps on my path.

My inner strength also correlates to my body. When my body is feeling strong and vital, I know that my energetic and emotional strength is also optimal. Good nutrition and environmental factors help me enormously.

My inner strength grows rapidly when I am faced with circumstances or feelings that I'd rather not face! Things that feel like blocks or difficulties are - to be cliché - your greatest opportunities to move forwards, to transform and to move to new levels of awareness. Embracing our flaws is not an easy or comfortable task, but will prove incredibly worthwhile.

Although cultivating inner strength is a personal journey, it is not something that I did alone. I did my own work with the support, guidance and facilitation of professional trainers, counsellors and bodyworkers. And I continue to do so.

Below is a circular checklist. Start anywhere, and flow with what comes next. Create your own virtuous cycle, where your inner strength becomes more vital with every step you take.

Clear away the conditioning.

Figure out your values.

Believe in yourself and your worth.

Nourish your body with good food, water and exercise.

Understand your body and its messages.

Find your purpose and step forward every day.

Surround yourself with good soul food.

Focus on your inner world.

Engage in activities that uplift you.

Get yourself a good bodyworker.
