Further Exploration of the Hips, Legs & Hamstrings

As you may have recently read in the blog post "Getting Deep with the Hips" I have encountered a wonderful Osteopath, Hannah Parr.

In our work together she is facilitating my body to return to its natural state of ease and optimal wellbeing - specifically the lower half of my body in the hips and legs.

It should be noted that these issues were not causing me any concern in my day-to-day life or essential activities, and only became noticeable when attempting to sit with my legs lower than my hips in yoga!

Still, this told me something about a restriction or limitation in my life.

I felt a limit in the feeling of flow, and here was a way to look at it through the body. What was my body communicating to me?

Looking at the body with a metaphorical lens, a whole range of possibilities opens up and healing is possible at emotional, spiritual and energetic levels.

The lower half of the body can be viewed as the foundation of your life. The legs carry you forwards, the feet direct you where you want to go.

Too often we lose connection to the lower half of our body, and there is so much going on in our heads these days.

Our feet, legs and hips connect us to the Earth, help us feel grounded. They are our roots, which can be very deep. They are also a source of natural, abundant energy.

Through Creative Kinesiology I discovered that these roots I am exploring go back to past lives, and restrictive teachings about how I should live my life.

[As a side note, I have been exploring my 'inner self' using bodywork for many years now, and am now clearing what I no longer need from previous lifetimes]

These include a lifetime as a female connected to the Essenes in the 1st century. Following the crucifixion of Jesus there was great persecution and widespread violence. At that time it would have been important not to reveal my beliefs, therefore remaining severely limited in my personal expression and actions.

Another lifetime in the South West of England at the beginning of the 12th century I was a female child in a strongly Christian family holding very harsh teachings around religion and spirituality. I was exposed to teachings that were punitive and restrictive and I was unable to speak or act against them.

My body remembered.

My hamstrings remembered the silencing and the limitation.

My legs remembered the trauma of what I witnessed.

My hips remembered the restricting of my own personal sense of freedom.

Through bodywork alongside exploration, I can now feel ease in my hip movements, in the joy of living and in the freedom of my spirit.

And I am finding more ease in my yoga flow too!

The body remembers - much, much more than we give it credit for. What is your body revealing to you?
